United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime International Consultant Jobs in Kenya; The consultancy supports the implementation of the US-funded project “Enhancing Effective and Victim-Centered Criminal Justice Responses to Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Child Sex Tourism (CST) in Madagascar (JTIP Madagascar).”

  • The project strengthens the capacity of the Malagasy government to detect, investigate, and prosecute TIP and CST, while promoting victim rights and protection from violence, abuse, and exploitation.

    Responsibilities

    Background of the Assignment:

  • UNODC is the guardian of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children.

  • Through its Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA), UNODC supports Member States in Eastern Africa to respond to transnational organized crime, illicit trafficking, and drug trafficking at legal, technical, and policy levels.

  • UNODC strengthens Member States’ capacity to prevent, investigate, and prosecute trafficking in persons, while upholding victim rights and fostering international cooperation.

  • The JTIP Madagascar project focuses on building knowledge of national stakeholders, promoting victim-centered approaches, and enhancing coordination among relevant actors.

  • The contracted entity will work under the supervision of the Head of Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Programmes, the Programme Management Officer, and in close consultation with programme
    staff and consultants.

    Qualifications / Special Skills

    Education:

  • Advanced university degree in criminology, law, political sciences, development, sociology, or related discipline required

  • First-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted

    Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in programme/project management support, technical assistance in TIP and SOM, or related areas required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of UNODC mandate and Eastern Africa region required

  • Experience conducting research in crime prevention and criminal justice issues required

  • Previous work experience with the UN or other International Organizations desirable

    Languages:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and French required

  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage
