United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Drug Control and Crime Prevention Intern Jobs in Kenya; This internship is located in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea (GARS) team of the Global Maritime Crime Programme, based in Nairobi at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The programme supports states in the East African region in the fight against maritime crime, with presence in Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Uganda.

The internship is UNPAID and full‑time (40 hours per week, 5 days). Duration: six months. Interns work under the direct supervision of professional staff of the Global Maritime Crime Programme. Applicants must be willing to undertake the internship in‑person.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to preparation of background documents, presentations, summaries, talking points, and speeches.

  • Assist in preparation of technical assistance workshops, meetings, high‑level events, and conferences.

  • Attend and take notes at meetings.

  • Translate documents and materials between Somali and English.

  • Maintain and update a regional Excel tracker covering programme grants, expenditure, timelines, balances, reporting deadlines, and follow‑up actions.

  • Maintain a consolidated procurement tracker for ongoing and planned processes.

  • Perform other tasks as necessary.


    Qualifications & Special Skills

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme (second university degree or higher).

  • Enrolled in
    or recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s).

  • Graduated with a university degree (proof required).

  • Computer literate in standard software applications.

  • Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

  • Field of study closely related to the internship type required.

  • Good knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and MS Teams.


    Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English required.

  • Knowledge of French or another official UN language is an advantage.

  • Knowledge of Somali language desirable.
