The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON); the UN headquarters in Africa, is seeking Finance & Budget Assistants to join the Budget and Financial Management Services (BFMS), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), and the Division of Operational Support, OnePayroll. The successful candidates will provide financial and budgetary support to UNON operations, ensuring compliance with UN rules and regulations while contributing to effective programme implementation.
Responsibilities
Budget
Act as Certifying Officer in the absence of programme managers.
Support review, analysis, and preparation of medium‑term plans and revisions.
Prepare supporting documents for cost estimates and budget proposals.
Assist managers in resource requirement submissions.
Undertake research and support budget reviews of intergovernmental and expert bodies.
Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and prepare adjustments.
Review requisitions for goods and services to ensure proper expenditure and fund availability.
Assist in preparation of budget performance submissions and reports.
Monitor integrity of financial databases and verify accuracy of input data.
Coordinate with finance and budget staff during report preparation.
Finance
Prepare, process, and review complex accounting transactions independently.
Investigate and correct erroneous or rejected transactions.
Process accounting adjustments and corrections as approved.
Conduct analysis and reconciliation of payroll and general ledger accounts.
Perform payroll analysis, data validation, and prepare monthly uploads.
Audit payroll payments and financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
Approve disbursements of staff entitlements and claims within authority.
Resolve inquiries from clients and provide authoritative information on pension contributions.
Liaise with
finance, HR, and insurance counterparts for issue resolution.
General
Stay updated on relevant documents, reports, and guidelines.
Draft correspondence on financial and budget matters.
Provide guidance, training, and supervision to general service staff.
Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of reports.
Support visualizations and updating of information materials.
Supervise and mentor junior staff and new team members.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competencies
Professionalism: Knowledge of UN financial rules and ability to analyze and resolve discrepancies.
Accountability: Ownership of responsibilities and compliance with organizational regulations.
Client Orientation: Ability to establish productive partnerships and anticipate client needs.
Education
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
