United Nations Office at Nairobi Finance & Budget Assistant Jobs; The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), the UN headquarters in Africa, is seeking Finance & Budget Assistants (G5 level) to join the Budget and Financial Management Services (BFMS), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), and the Division of Operational Support. The successful candidates will provide financial and budgetary support to UNON operations, ensuring compliance with UN rules and regulations while contributing to effective programme implementation.
Main Function
Responsible for supporting budget preparation, financial reporting, payroll administration, and compliance with UN financial regulations and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Budget
Assist in preparing supporting documents for cost estimates and budget proposals.
Support Finance/Budget Officers in generating expenditure reports and conducting preliminary analyses.
Assist in developing resource requirements and preparing budget performance submissions.
Research and compile data for budget reviews and analysis.
Consolidate data and support intergovernmental and expert body reviews.
Assist in preparing/finalizing budget performance reports and variance analyses.
Prepare pre‑encumbrances and obligations in ERP systems, ensuring funds availability.
Draft initial versions of financial sections of reports and resolutions.
Support financial backstopping of trust funds and monitor voluntary contributions.
Assist in issuance of allotments and staffing table authorizations.
Verify accuracy of input data and consistency across allotments.
Review draft reports for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with UN formats.
Accounting and Payroll Administration
Prepare, process, and review complex accounting transactions independently.
Investigate and correct erroneous or rejected transactions.
Record and maintain financial transactions in ERP systems.
Reconcile general ledger and sub‑ledger accounts, investigate variances, and prepare adjustments.
Support global payroll operations, including monthly and ad‑hoc processing.
Review
and validate payroll runs, ensuring accuracy and audit readiness.
Respond to staff and third‑party inquiries on payroll and benefits.
General
Stay updated on relevant documents, reports, and guidelines.
Draft routine correspondence on financial and budget matters.
Provide administrative support to Finance/Budget Officers.
Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of reports.
Support visualizations and updating of information materials.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
Supplemental training in finance, administration, or project management desirable.
Job‑Specific Qualification
Recognized accountancy qualification (CPA, ACCA, CIPFA) desirable.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in finance, budget, or accounting (reduced to 3 years with a university degree).
Experience with ERP systems required.
At least 1 year of experience in payroll activities desirable.
Knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, IPSAS, and UN Staff Rules desirable.
