United Nations Office at Nairobi Biomedical Engineering Consultant Jobs in Kenya;
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a Biomedical Engineering Consultant to strengthen medical equipment management across JMS facilities in Nairobi, Dadaab, and Kakuma. The role will ensure equipment is safe, functional, properly maintained, and effectively managed throughout its lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Maintenance

  • Assess, install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and monitor biomedical equipment.

  • Conduct inventories and evaluate functionality, safety, utilization, and maintenance needs.

  • Recommend repairs, replacements, upgrades, or disposal of equipment.

    Preventive Maintenance

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Perform minor servicing and first‑line repairs.

    Procurement & Standardization

  • Provide technical advice on biomedical equipment and healthcare technology systems.

  • Support requisition team with specifications, proposal evaluation, and acceptance testing.

  • Recommend standardization of equipment across JMS facilities.

    Training & Capacity Building

  • Train healthcare staff on proper use, care, and basic maintenance.

  • Conduct periodic visits to field clinics and recommend improvements.

    Reporting

  • Prepare periodic and final reports on equipment status, maintenance activities, and recommendations.

    Deliverables

  • Inception Report, Work Plan, and Assessment Schedule (2 weeks).

  • Biomedical Equipment Inventory and Assessment Report (6 weeks).

  • Preventive Maintenance Plan and Servicing
    Report (12 weeks).

  • Equipment Procurement, Standardization, and Replacement Plan (18 weeks).

  • Staff Training, Assembly, and Testing Report (22 weeks).

  • Final Consultancy Report and Long‑Term Equipment Management Plan (end of assignment).

    Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Diploma in Biomedical Engineering required.

  • Valid registration with the Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya.

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in biomedical engineering.

  • Hands‑on hospital/clinical experience with critical‑care and emergency equipment.

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining equipment from multiple manufacturers desirable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

    Work Location & Duration

  • Nairobi, with visits to Dadaab and Kakuma.
