United Nations Office at Nairobi Assistant Medical Officer Jobs in Kenya;The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a Medical Officer for the Joint Medical Service (JMS) at Kakuma duty station. The role provides clinical care, emergency response, and medico‑administrative support to UN staff and dependents, ensuring high‑quality health services in field conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Provide assessment, stabilization, and treatment of medical, surgical, and obstetric emergencies.

  • Coordinate with Ministry of Health teams on infectious disease surveillance.

  • Attend to walk‑in patients and conduct pre‑placement/periodic medical exams.

  • Administer immunizations and travel health advice.

  • Coordinate medical evacuations and follow‑up with specialists.

  • Deliver health education and counselling.

  • Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, including house calls and hospital rounds.

    Medico‑Administrative Duties

  • Liaise with host nation medical facilities and dispensaries.

  • Apply UN policies on medical clearances, sick leave, and evacuations.

  • Prepare paperwork and reports for medical evacuations.

  • Supervise nurses and clinic staff.

  • Establish relations with hospitals, private facilities, and blood banks.

    Supervisory & Administrative Duties

  • Implement training programmes on health awareness, infection prevention, and mass casualty response.

  • Undertake outpatient treatment and immunization requirements.

  • Report regularly on clinic activities and local medical facilities.

  • Supervise JMS nurse at duty station.

  • Collect and analyze health data, prepare visualizations, and support data‑driven planning.

    Competencies

  • Professionalism: Strong clinical knowledge, ability to analyze data, persistence under pressure.

  • Communication:
    Clear oral and written communication, openness in sharing information.

  • Planning & Organizing: Ability to set priorities, allocate resources, and foresee risks.

    Education

  • First‑level degree (MBChB) required.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and databases required.

    Job‑Specific Qualification

  • Full registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council required.

  • Certification in occupational health and safety desirable.

    Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in clinical medical practice in field, hospital, or pre‑hospital environments.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in Accident & Emergency or Intensive Care required.

  • Experience in occupational health desirable.

  • Experience in counselling/stress management desirable.

  • 1 year or more of experience in data analytics desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • Kiswahili required.

  • French desirable.

    Work Location & Duration

  • Kakuma duty station.

  • Duration: As per contract terms.
