United Nations Office at Geneva Budget Assistant Jobs in Kenya; The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) hosts the Programme Planning and Budget Section (PPBS) within the Financial Resources Management Service (FRMS).
The Budget Assistant supports programme planning, budget preparation, monitoring and reporting, ensuring compliance with UN financial rules and procedures.
Responsibilities
Budget Support
Assist in review, analysis and preparation of programme plans and revisions.
Prepare supporting documents for cost estimates and budget proposals.
Support managers in resource requirement submissions.
Undertake research and assist with budget reviews.
Monitor and project expenditures, prepare adjustments as needed.
Assist in preparation of budget performance reports and variance analysis.
Verify accuracy of financial data and ensure database integrity.
Coordinate with finance staff during budget report preparation.
Monitor staffing tables and support administration of positions.
Assist in issuance of allotments and staffing authorizations.
Support cost recovery and charge‑back mechanisms, including invoicing.
Assist in grant creation, monitoring voluntary contributions and donor reporting.
Review requisitions for goods/services to ensure correct expenditure and fund availability.
Prepare pre‑commitments and commitments in Umoja (travel requests, purchase orders).
General Duties
Stay updated on relevant UN documents, reports and guidelines.
Draft correspondence on financial and budget matters.
Maintain and update files.
Provide guidance and training to other general service staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Planning & Organizing – Goal setting, prioritization, resource allocation, risk management.
Client Orientation – Build partnerships, anticipate client needs, deliver timely solutions.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
First‑level university degree preferred (reduces experience requirement).
Work Experience
Minimum 7 years’ experience in finance, budget, accounting or administrative services required.
Minimum 5 years with first‑level degree.
4+ years’ experience within UN Common System or similar international organization desirable.
Experience with ERP systems (Umoja) desirable.
Experience in staffing administration, grants, procurement and travel desirable.
Experience in cost recovery and billing desirable.
Languages
English and French required.
Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Russian or Spanish desirable.
