Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba, Office of Chief
of Staff, Field Support Office. Juba is classified in the "E" category and as a non-family duty station. The
Liaison Officer will report to the Senior Liaison Officer.

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority and under the supervision of the Senior Liaison Officer, the Liaison Officer will
be responsible for the following duties:
- Supports the day-to-day operational activities related to the work of the Field Offices.
- Liaises with the Heads of Field Offices on the implementation of the Mission’s mandate, and as
requested, provide supplemental information to the Heads of Field Offices on policy and substantive
guidance and other relevant information on the peace process as well as other key political and security
developments at the national level.
- Coordinates and collaborates with counterparts in the other Mission components, sections, and units at
Mission headquarters to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Field Offices.
- Provides timely information and analysis to the senior management on developments in the field about operations, including crisis management,
- Develops response to requests from UNHQ Headquarters and supports visiting delegations to Mission
HQ and the field offices.
- Consolidates and analyses monthly Field Office reports.
- Assists in planning, coordinating, and supporting programmatic activities of the Field Offices where
Mission headquarters involvement and coordination are needed.
- Provides substantive support to organize consultations, meetings, and conferences, including annual
Heads of Field Offices conference.
- Supports the Chief of Staff and Senior Liaison Officer in the coordination of inputs for reports and
prepares written outputs as required, including analytical reports, background briefings, talking points,
correspondence, and other communication products.
- Assists and supports other substantive sections in having a consistent and coherent approach to the
Mission operations at the field level.
- Performs other tasks as required, including assisting the Office of Chief of Staff.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in social sciences, political science,
international relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree with a combination of two additional
years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of the advanced university degree. Professional
training in the areas of planning, monitoring, evaluation, facilitation, or coordination is desirable.


Work Experience
•A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, political affairs, international relations, law, mediation, conflict resolution, or related area is required.

•A minimum of one year's working experience in a special political or peacekeeping mission, or any other related international organization, in a conflict/post-conflict context, is required.

•A minimum of one year's working experience providing reporting and analysis to a variety of audiences is required.

•Experience working in or in support of field offices away from the Mission headquarters is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.

Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise that may be
followed by a competency-based interview.
