United Nations Principal Coordinator Jobs Vacancies in Kenya


Introduction

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This post is located in the UN Environment, Policy and Programme Division at the Nairobi duty station. Under the overall leadership of the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director, and direct supervision of the Policy and Programme Division Director, the incumbent of the post will be responsible for the following:

    Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director in preparing the work programme of the Branch/Service/Division, determining priorities, and allocating resources for the completion of outputs and their timely delivery.
  • Undertakes or oversees the programmatic/administrative tasks necessary for the functioning of the Branch/Service/Division, including preparation of budgets, reporting on budget/programme performance, evaluation of staff performance, interviews of candidates for job openings, evaluation of candidates and preparation of inputs for results-based budgeting.
  • Recruits staff, taking due account of geographical balance.
  • Manages, guides, develops and trains staff under his/her supervision.
  • Fosters teamwork and communication among staff in the Branch/Service/Division and across organizational boundaries.
  • Leads and supervises the organization of meetings, seminars, etc. on substantive issues. Manages the substantive preparation and organization of such meetings or seminars.
  • Participates in international, regional or national meetings and provides programmatic/substantive expertise on an issue, or holds programmatic/substantive and organizational discussions with representatives of other institutions.
  • Represents the Division at international, regional or national meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Qualifications

  • Delegates the appropriate responsibility, accountability and decision-making authority;
  • Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Law, Social Sciences, Management or other relevant field.
  • A minimum of fifteen years of professional and progressively responsible experience, including work experience in environmental policy analysis, international relations, humanitarian affairs, special initiatives and development and management issues is required.
  • Proven ability to provide advice to the Policy Division Director, the Executive Office and Senior Management Team members on a broad range of faith-based organization related to environmental policy issues, organizational reform and administrative issues to facilitate decision-making.

    Qualifications

    United Nations Editor, English Jobs Vacancies in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Editing texts of a specialized or technical nature for accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policy and practice.
  • Consulting with author departments and carrying out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify errors.
  • Providing authors or others submitting documentation with information on specific aspects of editorial policy and practice and assisting them in the preparation of manuscripts.
  • Providing guidance to contractual editors and translators with a view to refining their skills and performance and assisting them in solving problems which require specialized knowledge, linguistic insight and political judgement.
  • Assisting the Chief of the Unit in the organization of work, especially during peak seasons, meetings and conferences, inter alia, in the composition of shifts and assignments to meetings in and away from headquarters, including those serviced by remote translation.
  • Deputizes for the Chief of the Unit on request and performs other administrative duties within the Unit which are assigned to her/him.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Qualifications

  • Knowledge of editorial policies, practices and research techniques. Solid writing and analytical abilities with sensitivity to nuance.
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments;
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;
  • A first level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for Editors.
