United Nations Program Manager, Officer Jobs Opportunities in Kenya


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate assigned programmes; monitor and analyze programme development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; ensure follow-up actions. Research, analyze and presents information gathered from diverse sources; coordinate policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies, etc.
  • Organize and prepare written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. Provide substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc. Initiates and coordinates outreach and communication activities; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Plan and lead and/or participate in large, complex field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc. Coordinate activities related to budget funding (programme preparation and submissions, progress reports, etc.) and prepare related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, etc.).
  • Assist the Executive Director, through liaison with internal and external partners on strategic political, policy and operational issues related to UN Environment. Lead and coordinate the development of cross-cutting strategic policy directives, position papers, statements and briefings in accordance with the organizations

    Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to particular sector, functional area or other specialized field.
  • Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
  • Ability to develop sources for data collection.
  • Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter;
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;
  • Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
  • Advanced University Degree (Master's Degree or equivalent) in environment science, management, economics or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of seven years progressively responsible experience in project and programme management, environment related field or related area with at least three years at the international level.
  • Experience working with high-level officials is desirable. Knowledge of UN Rules and Regulations an added advantage.

    United Nations Finance & Budget Officer Jobs Opportunities in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyses data with respect to the finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals, in terms of staff and non-staff requirements, in accordance with the UN Environment Programme of Work and activities mandated by the member states;
  • Monitors utilization of the overall Environment fund, Regular Budget and Programme Support Cost budget and recommends reallocation of funds when necessary;
  • Keeps up-to-date on documents/reports/guidelines that have a bearing on matters related to programme budgets, ensuring compliance with intergovernmental recommendations and decisions as well as with United Nations accounting standards (IPSAS) as well as policies
    and procedures;

    Qualifications]

  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices. Ability to independently conduct research and analysis, formulate options and present conclusions and recommendations. Shows pride in work and in achievements;
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments;
  • Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view;
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, finance, or in a related area.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in finance, administration, budget, business administration or related area is required.
  • Proven working experience/knowledge with Enterprise Resource Platform (ERP) systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong qualitative research and analytical skills as well as experience with management reports and use of reports in Business Intelligence is desirable

    United Nations Programme Management Officer Jobs Opportunities in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Plan and co-ordinate the promotion of design and implementation of environmental awareness, education and training programmes within the scope of UN Environment's mandate and thematic sub-programmes. Contribute to the UN Environment's overall strategy for, and implementation of youth engagement through the thematic sub-programmes including through fund-raising efforts to implement the Unit's programmes.
  • Supervise other professionals and support staff, and direct participants and partners during training and outreach events.
  • Manage continuous awareness raising and information on topical EETU developments and demand driven activities in this field.
  • Arrange for promotion, development, production and dissemination of inter-active environmental learning/training tools.
  • Manage and co-ordinate all actions required for the effective day-to-day functioning of EETU related work within UN Environment.

    Qualifications

  • Ability to identify key strategic issues, opportunities and risks. Ability to generate and communicate broad and compelling organizational direction.
  • Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients" and seeks to see things from clients' point of view;
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; Identifies priority activities and assignments;
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate, or equivalent) in Environmental Management Education and/or related fields is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project management in the field of environmental management and /or Environmental Education, or related fields is required.
