United Nations Associate Programme Management Officer Jobs in Kenya


Introduction

The United Nations Environment (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus, by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

Responsibilities

  • Work with key partners to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of the Global Universities Partnership on Education and Sustainability (GUPES) programme with focus on education, research, training, networking and youth engagement.
  • Collect, analyze and present statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources on emerging trends in Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
  • Undertake outreach activities; organize training courses, workshops, seminars, make presentations on topical themes to enhance environmental education, awareness as well as environmental decision-making in development.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of environmental education and training projects and initiatives.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc, to include agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of background documents and handling logistics.
  • Prepare written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.

    Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to environmental education (EE) and/or education for sustainable development (ESD).
  • Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
  • Ability to develop sources of data collection.
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments;
  • Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental education/awareness-raising/advocacy/networking and project/programme management or related fields is required.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

    United Nations Associate External Relations Officer Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of effective communications, outreach, branding and other resource mobilization mechanisms and tools to enhance the visibility of UNISDR in the region, in close collaboration with counterparts in the Communication and Advocacy Section.
  • Provides substantive inputs for the development of strategic partnerships with key constituencies at the regional level to solicit support for and maximize impact of

    Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in resource mobilization, partnerships building, public information, communication, advocacy campaigns or related area is required.
  • Experience in fundraising is required, preferably for a minimum of two years.
  • Experience in social media is desirable.

    Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the slum upgrading programme/projects;
  • Performs assignments in planning and facilitating participatory design workshops and assisting in developing the action plan for the project to manage the change.
  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends of slums, informal settlements and inadequate housing, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Provides substantive support to meetings, conferences, etc., which includes proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, etc.
  • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.;
  • Participates in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission reports, etc.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.)

    Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to particular sector, functional area or other specialized field;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies;
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in urban planning, architecture, engineering, social, environmental or political sciences, geography or GIS or other urban development oriented studies with focus on urban poverty reduction.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area.
