Introduction

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
  • This position is located within the Africa Office, UN Environment Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.Under the general supervision of the Regional Director and Regional Representative, the incumbent is primarily responsible for the coordination of UN Environment interventions in Kenya. Such duties will include:

    Responsibilities

  • Coordinate UN Environment's Engagement with the Government of Kenya:
  • Coordinate UN Environment's Engagement with the Environment Donor Group in Kenya;
  • .Focal Point in UN Environment at the UN Country Team and the UN Development Assistance Framework Process:
  • Coordinate Implementation of flagship projects jointly implemented by UN Environment and the Government of Kenya :
  • Liaison with the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources:
  • Coordination of UN Environment’s activities being implemented in Kenya for coherence:
  • Private sector engagement:
  • Perform any other duties and functions as may be assigned by the Management of UN Environviment.

    Qualifications

  • Demonstrates professional competence in programme/project management and implementation, planning and monitoring. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; Solicits input by genuinely valuing others' ideas and expertise and is willing to learn from others:
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in the environmental related science, ecology, biology or related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in programme management, Experience in developing and/or presenting reports and data, as well as facilitating meetings is required..

    United Nations Interpreter Russian Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Service up to seven meetings per week exceptionally eight, usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies.
  • Russian interpreters provide interpretation, as required, into Russian of speeches or statements given in two other UN official languages.
  • May occasionally be assigned to sensitive meetings.
  • May function as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting.
  • May perform other related duties, as required.

    Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of concentration;
  • A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Russian Interpreters.
  • A minimum of two years of internationally recognized professional interpreting experience.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

    United Nations Chief of Section, Public Information Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Planning, monitoring, and assessment: (a) Plan, monitor, and assess the section’s work, including outsourced work, in the context of the division’s project commitments to UN Environment’s Programme of Work and its Medium Term Strategy;
  • Management and oversight: Manage and oversee the section’s work, including the procurement of goods and services, and its human and other resources, in accordance with the organisation’s policies, procedures, rules, and regulations;
  • Strategy and innovation: Provide overall strategic direction to the work of the section, with appropriate strategic framing for the requirements
    of the section’s clients, underpinned by a sustained innovation strategy that delivers the mandate of the section at the cutting edge of associated industry practices, techniques, technologies, and approaches;
  • Executive editor, publisher, and producer: Under the Director’s delegated authority, fulfill the functions of executive editor, publisher, and producer, accountable for the cost and quality control of the organisation’s relevant communication collaterals;
  • Resource mobilization: Mobilize and manage resources for the section and for the division;
  • Reporting and communication: Ensure timely and comprehensive reporting and documentation as per client, division, corporate, and donor requirements;
  • Resource scheduling: Establish and maintain effective and efficient resource scheduling and workflow management systems and processes for the section;
  • Content and traffic coordination: Coordinate the section’s throughput, optimizing the systems and processes required to absorb client and project inputs and deliver client and project outputs, including sound relationship management.
  • Perform any other relevant duties.

    Qualifications

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for the creation and maintenance of communication collaterals that ensures a stable and effective systems environment;
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments;
  • Strong managerial and supervisory skills to lead and coordinate strategic programmatic and reform teams.
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, communication or organizational management, marketing, advertising, computer or information systems or related area.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in communication, media production, publishing, business administration or related field is required.

    Responsibilities

  • Develop legal frameworks and regulatory mechanisms relating to key environmental priorities, including on UN Environment's climate change sub-programme:
  • Collaborate with relevant multilateral agencies responsible for the development of environmental law, including those on climate change and energy, to ensure compliance.
  • Develop in collaboration with other UN Environment Divisions and other partners’ normative tools and methodologies.
  • Programme development:
  • Liaise with UN Environment's stakeholders and the countries to support global and regional inter-governmental environmental processes, including those on climate change:
  • Represent UN Environment in policy-making and substantive inter-agency meetings:

    Qualifications

  • Knowledge of environmental law and governance, both substantive and procedural.
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise;
  • Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view;
  • An advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in environmental law or related area. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
