United Nations Internship - Economic Affairs Jobs in Ethiopia


Responsibilities

  • Assist with research on issues pertaining to investment and trade in Africa;
  • Support in developing presentations; drafting documents, servicing meetings, and servicing requests for information;
  • Undertake research and analytical studies to support Member States in the formulation and designing of policies relevant for Africa’s transformation through regional integration and trade;
  • Liaises with other Sections of the Division on matters relating to trade and investments;
  • Collaborate in various assignments in relation to the two mentioned studies;
  • Assist with managing the datasets (collects, evaluates, interprets and analyses data) on study, on determinants of intra-African investments including: retrieving data from public sources; data entry where necessary;
  • Support in the manipulation of the datasets to make them accessible and user-friendly;
  • Support the data synchronization process among all data collecting partners, including the UNCTUD, IMF and CEPII databases among others;
  • Assist to create data visualization and other types of outputs to support the final report and other publications, if it is needed; and
  • Assist with other tasks as needed and participate in some day-to-day operational tasks of the division.

    Qualifications

  • To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; Be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in either English or French (Oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language desirable

  • draft and edit publications, papers and other documents;
  • liaise with MPD stakeholders on key development topics for Africa;

    Responsibilities

  • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents
  • Attending and summarizing meetings
  • Working on web-presentations
  • Compiling statistics
  • Generating a variety of statistical and other reports, work orders, etc, using various databases in Excel and SAP. Performing data entry and extraction functions.
  • Assist in on-going projects for the designing and developing web-based database and forms
  • Assist in IT-related projects including preparing and analyzing administrative related matter,

    Responsibilities

  • Assist with compiling information and undertake research on policy issues in relation to population issues including the policy/normative framework as well as issues such as demographic dividend, demographic transitions, determinants and consequences of population trends
  • Support data collection activities
  • Undertake desk review of bibliographies for the section's reports and proof read documents
  • Assist with organizing and convening meetings, including attending to all relevant preparations.
  • Perform other duties as might be assigned by the Chief of Section.
