United Nations Intern - Administration and Finance Jobs in Kenya


Org. Setting and Reporting

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

  • This position is located in the Public Sector Partnerships & Resource Mobilization Section, Corporate Services Division at the Nairobi duty station. The focus of the position is financial research and management related to the organization's income, funding partners with focus on member states.

  • Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
    Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

  • Under the supervision of an Officer in the Unit, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:

    Responsibilities

    Income reporting:

    • Assist in data entry and data validation of funding partner information in support of launching Power Business Intelligence (BI) as a new income reporting tool.

    • Provide support with respect to; collaboration, liaising with Financial Management Unit on Member States invoices and receipts as well as updating and maintaining database for tracking and future reference.

    • Assist in Financial analysis for the Environment Fund and earmarked income to form basis for reporting on income status and funding profiles for Member States.

    Records management:

    • Assist with reviewing for record integrity, migrating and consolidating records, including correspondence log, agreements and contacts for purposes of data migration to Client Relationship Management (CRM) tool.

    Additional Duties:

    • Assist in ad
    hoc excel related reports.

    • Perform other related tasks as assigned

    Education

  • Masters student/Undergraduate student in 3rd or 4th year of study in international relations or any business-related field or its equivalent. Additional training or qualification in finance, budget or accounting is highly desirable.

    Work Experience

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
