United Nations Human Settlements Programme Wastewater and Water Quality Data Technical Specialist Jobs in Kenya; The Consultant supports UN‑Habitat’s role in the Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6 (GEMI), focusing on indicator 6.3.1 (wastewater generated and safely treated). The role involves methodology development, data collection, harmonization, analysis, reporting, and outreach in collaboration with WHO, UNSD, OECD, Eurostat, and other partners.

Responsibilities

Methodology & Data Harmonization

  • Contribute to UN‑Water guidance for monitoring wastewater flows.

  • Consult with WHO, UNSD, OECD, Eurostat on data collection, metadata, and terminology.

  • Harmonize international wastewater data collection processes.

    Data Analysis & Repository Development
  • Review wastewater data from relevant databases for accuracy and consistency.

  • Develop country files, graphics, regional aggregates, and time series.

  • Ensure data inclusion in global SDG 6.3.1 database.

    Country Data Collection
  • Collect disaggregated wastewater data from 10–15 countries not currently reporting.

  • Advise countries to align with international definitions and standards.

  • Support reporting to UNSD/OECD/Eurostat databases.

    Reporting & Technical Inputs
  • Contribute to 2024 SDG 6.3.1 indicator report.

  • Draft report sections and provide updated statistical information.

    Cross‑cutting Analysis & Outreach
  • Participate in UN‑Water IMI‑SDG6 meetings and
    activities.

  • Provide guidance to countries on cross‑cutting and institutional issues.

  • Prepare outreach materials, project proposals, publications, and position papers.

    Resource Mobilization
  • Discuss strategies with partners and donors.

  • Develop concept notes and proposals to mobilize resources for project sustainability.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • French desirable.
