United Nations Human Settlements Programme Urban-Rural linkages Intern Jobs in Kenya; PLS is recruiting two interns for 2025/2026 to assist with its portfolio on urban‑rural linkages and territorial approaches.

The interns will support research and policy‑oriented work, particularly the project “Strengthening Urban‑Rural Linkages through Regeneration.”

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on urban and rural development policies, regeneration initiatives and territorial strategies.

  • Review and prepare background documents, literature summaries, briefing notes and technical inputs.

  • Analyze data and compile case‑based evidence on urban‑rural linkages and intersections with food systems, regeneration, rural revitalization, smart villages and intermediary cities.

  • Support preparation of concept notes, presentations and reports.

  • Assist in developing knowledge products, policy tools and communication materials.

  • Contribute to organization of workshops, webinars and learning events, including documentation and reporting.

    Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Enrollment in graduate programme, final year of undergraduate, or recent graduate.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Keen interest in UN work and commitment to UN Charter ideals.

  • Ability to interact with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Preferred fields: Urban Regeneration,
    Urban Studies, Urban & Regional Planning, Geography, International Development.

  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills.

  • Familiarity with urban regeneration, rural revitalization, urban‑rural linkages and sustainable urbanization.

  • Proficiency in English required.

  • Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) desirable.

  • Experience in research, copy editing and database management desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) desirable.

  • Knowledge of another UN language desirable.
