United Nations Human Settlements Programme Urban-Rural linkages Intern Jobs in Kenya


Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on urban and rural development policies, regeneration initiatives, and territorial strategies.

  • Review and prepare background documents, literature summaries, briefing notes and technical inputs.

  • Analyse data and compile case‑based evidence on urban‑rural linkages and intersections with food systems, regeneration, rural revitalization, smart villages and intermediary cities.

  • Support preparation of concept notes, presentations and reports for internal and external use.

  • Assist in developing knowledge products, policy tools and communication materials.

  • Contribute to thematic workshops, webinars and learning events, including documentation and reporting.

    Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme in urban regeneration, urban studies, urban and regional planning, geography, international development or related field.

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills.

  • Familiarity with urban regeneration, rural revitalization, urban‑rural linkages, territorial development, land and housing systems
    or sustainable urbanization.

  • Proficiency in English required; fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) desirable.

  • Experience in research, copy editing and database management/data analytics desirable.

    Languages

  • English required.

  • Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) desirable.

  • Knowledge of another UN language desirable.

    Additional Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated.

  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.

  • Non‑citizens or non‑residents may require appropriate visa/work authorization.
