United Nations Human Settlements Programme Spatial Data Analyst Jobs in Kenya; The consultant will work in the Data and Statistics Unit, under the direct supervision of the Geospatial Data Lead and the Chief of the Unit.The role focuses on generating training datasets, extracting and validating geospatial data, and supporting workflow automation and capacity-building activities.

Responsibilities

Generate training datasets for spatial modelling of housing typologies and high-density irregular settlements

Extract data on built-up areas from high-resolution satellite imagery for multiple time periods, focusing on slums and informal settlements

Validate extracted data against previous DSU datasets for trends analysis

Cross-validate calculated SDG 11 geospatial data per city using existing literature and past trends

Contribute to development of spatial analysis scripts, workflow automation, and capacity-building activities, including training on DEGURBA and SDG methodologies

Qualifications / Special Skills

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Additional training in remote sensing, GIS, urban planning, geography, or related field highly desirable

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in spatial data analysis, image interpretation, satellite data extraction, and map digitization required

High proficiency in GIS and remote sensing software (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, ErdasImagine, ENVI) required

Experience as a spatial data analyst desirable

Knowledge of and experience working with the SDGs highly desirable

GIS programming skills, geostatistical workflows, and GIS online systems an added advantage

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English required

Knowledge of another UN language an advantage
