United Nations Human Settlements Programme Senior Advisor Jobs in Kenya; The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. This position is located in the Office of the Executive Director, Nairobi Duty Station. Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director and Chief of Staff, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties;

Competencies

Professionalism: Excellent knowledge of the institutional mandates, policies and procedures of the United Nations; experience in the coordination of the activities of high-level officials and the provision of policy advice on a range of managerial and political questions.

Strong analytical skills and proven ability to develop policy options and strategies; ability to establish and maintain contacts at all levels. Sound political judgement and diplomatic skills. The ability to analyze and interpret data in support of decision-making and convey resulting information to management.

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in development studies, political science, international relations, management or other relevant discipline is required. A first university degree with a combination of two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.



    Work Experience

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in international development, political affairs and/or management in a politically sensitive environment, including at least five (5) years at the international level is required.

  • Experience in providing strategic policy advice to senior level officials is required.

  • Experience in executive direction and management of a multilateral organization is desirable.

  • Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable.
