United Nations Human Settlements Programme Multilevel Governance Specialist Jobs in Kenya; This position is located in UN-Habitat’s SDG Localization and Local Governments Team within the Global Solutions Division (GSD) and Urban Practices Branch (UPB).
The team coordinates UN-Habitat’s corporate offering and global portfolio on SDG localization, advancing city-level transformation through the SDG Cities initiative and supporting national governments to develop National SDG Localization Frameworks.
The consultant will support normative work on multilevel governance for the SDGs and policy coherence for SDG localization.
Responsibilities
Provide technical advice and recommendations on multilevel governance for the SDGs across all workstreams, particularly the Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDGs
Draft and review documents, tools, reports, policy papers, concept notes, and proposals
Lead content development of the Guidelines on National SDG Localization Frameworks, including:
Workplan and index
Desk review and analysis of existing content and publications
Case study analysis and operational work review
Information collection through interviews and consultations
Drafting and integration of partner comments
Suggestions for graphic design
Support organization of meetings, consultations, and workshops related to the Guidelines, Partnership Platform, and wider work on multilevel governance and SDG localization
Provide tailored technical advice to review tools, methodologies, and capacity-building material for the Partnership Platform
Review documents developed by city and country partners related to UN-Habitat’s country-level activities (reports,
policies, draft National SDG Localization Frameworks)
Reporting Line
Supervised by the Human Settlements Officer coordinating the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team
Under direct supervision of the Director of the Global Solutions Division
Work in proximity with other team members and units across UN-Habitat
Qualifications / Special Skills
Education:
Advanced university degree in Public Affairs, Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Communications, Development Studies, or related area required
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on sustainable development and multilevel governance required
Experience with the 2030 Agenda and local implementation of the SDGs highly valued
Previous experience with the United Nations an asset
Languages
Fluency in English required
Knowledge of another UN official language an asset
