United Nations Human Settlements Programme Market Development and Nature Finance Jobs in Kenya;The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Consultant to lead market development and MSME finance mobilization under the ProCongo initiative. This joint project with UNCDF, funded by CAFI, aims to foster green economic growth and reduce deforestation in the Congo Basin by financing nature‑positive, climate‑resilient MSMEs.

Key Responsibilities

Market Development

  • Establish and coordinate a coalition of investment stakeholders.

  • Deepen market intelligence and tailor financial/market products to local context (target of five products).

  • Develop feasibility evaluation and prioritization framework informed by case studies and scalable precedents.

    Finance Mobilization

  • Co‑develop recommendation action plans with financial institutions and partners.

  • Conduct feasibility assessments and produce public‑facing outputs (position paper, interactive database, website, knowledge pieces).

  • Support blended finance mobilization for nature‑positive MSMEs.

    Environmental & Social Risk Management

  • Provide technical assistance and small grants to MSMEs.

  • Ensure E&S risk and impact management, monitoring, reporting, and verification.

    Partnerships

  • Work with UNCDF to create partnerships and networks of financial institutions.

  • Strengthen collaboration with governments, NGOs, think tanks, and companies.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in natural resource management, international development, management, economics, or finance.

  • First‑level degree with two
    additional years of experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in private equity, venture capital, and financial/market analysis in emerging markets.

  • Experience in finance for nature‑positive and climate‑resilient SMEs required.

  • Experience researching green economic growth in developing economies required.

  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.

  • Excellent networks with governments, NGOs, companies, and international organizations desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • Knowledge of French desirable.

    Work Location & Reporting

  • Consultant reports to Programme Management Officer, UNEP Climate and Nature Finance Unit.

  • Supervision by Head of UNEP Climate and Nature Finance Unit.
