United Nations Human Settlements Programme Construction Manager Jobs in Kenya;UN‑Habitat is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee full construction activities under the EU‑funded PINUA Programme in Kisumu. The role will ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery of housing and community infrastructure projects, including the Kibuye Cooperative Social Rental Housing and three pilot sites in Muhoroni.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Supervision & Site Management

  • Oversee contractors’ compliance with contracts, specifications, and drawings.

  • Provide on‑site supervision for all works under PINUA.

  • Implement quality management processes, inspections, and HSSE standards.

  • Manage assistants in logistics, inventory, labour, and site records.

  • Maintain accurate daily records and prepare weekly/monthly reports.

  • Review contractor schedules, monitor progress, and report delays.

  • Inspect materials, reinforcement steel, concrete works, and samples for compliance.

    Technical Evaluation & Design

  • Resolve technical problems in coordination with contractors and consultants.

  • Review contractor valuations and payment certificates.

  • Examine drawings/documents to detect discrepancies.

  • Support timely delivery of progress reports and milestone updates.

    Contractual & Administrative Management

  • Monitor compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Attend site meetings and provide technical input.

  • Report deviations from approved timelines.

  • Collaborate on inspection reports and financial updates.

  • Maintain accurate records of contracts, financial data, and correspondence.

    Team Coaching & Supervision

  • Organize and facilitate training sessions in construction management.

  • Participate in knowledge‑sharing and Communities of Practice.

  • Conduct research and contribute to reports and summaries.

  • Define team performance objectives and conduct evaluations.

    Coordination & Reporting

  • Archive contracts, designs, BOQs, change orders, and QA systems.

  • Maintain contact with
    local authorities and contractors.

  • Consolidate field data into weekly/monthly progress reports.

  • Document as‑built drawings and closure reports.

    Deliverables

  • Validated technical files (plans, descriptions, BOQs).

  • Weekly multi‑technical progress reports.

  • Completed team performance evaluations.

  • Acceptance certificates validated in the field.

  • As‑built drawings and financial/technical closure reports.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or related field.

  • First‑level degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in site/construction management.

  • Experience supervising at least three building projects of 1,000 sqm or more desirable.

  • Proficiency in CAD and project management tools (MS Project, Excel) desirable.

  • Experience in data analytics desirable.

  • Proven team management and coaching experience required.

  • Experience with UN or international development projects desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • Knowledge of local language an advantage.

    Work Location & Duration

  • Kisumu, Kenya.

  • Expected duration: 12 months.
