United Nations Environment Programme Web Developer Jobs in Kenya

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); is the leading global environmental authority. UNEP administers the Nairobi Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Coastal and Marine Environment of the Western Indian Ocean (WIO). Contracting Parties include Comoros, France, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, and Tanzania.

Job Purpose

To support the Nairobi Convention’s programmes, projects, and reporting mechanisms of Contracting Parties, with a focus on digital platforms, dashboards, and web content management.

Key Responsibilities

Support development, updating, and maintenance of Nairobi Convention website pages and related platforms.

Assist in creating and maintaining visualization dashboards for projects (SWIOFC‑NC PP1, SWIOFC‑NC PP2, NOCAMO, etc.).

Collate, organize, and prepare project information and datasets for dashboards and reporting tools.

Integrate data from multiple sources into cohesive datasets for dashboards and web products.

Develop and update metadata and structured information for web maps and project systems.

Support data analysis and interpretation using digital tools to generate insights for communication and decision‑making.

Assist in creating and publishing COP12 and other event‑related web pages.

Upload and maintain website content (documents, resources, updates, communication materials).

Support improvement of online visibility, accessibility, and digital knowledge‑sharing systems.

Qualifications / Special Skills

Education

Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (Master’s or higher), or final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), or graduated with

a degree in Web Development, Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related field.

Experience

No professional work experience required.

Background in front‑end development, content management systems, data visualization, or web‑based information systems desirable.

Training, coursework, or skills in communication, digital content, or multimedia work (e.g., websites, social media, newsletters, blogs) desirable.

Skills

Pleasant interpersonal skills.

Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

Keen interest in the UN’s work and commitment to the UN Charter.

Languages

Fluency in English required.

Knowledge of French or another UN language an advantage.
