United Nations Environment Programme UNEP Mercury Consultant - Planet Gold and Enabling Activities Jobs in Kenya

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support project development, portfolio supervision and technical delivery across the GEF Chemicals & Waste portfolio.

  • Develop GEF‑9 projects and concepts with experts, stakeholders and countries.

  • Provide task management, reporting and technical inputs for the GCGCU portfolio.

  • Hold weekly calls with Task Managers and monthly calls with executing agencies (fortnightly for projects at risk).

  • Review and clear quarterly progress/financial reports, annual workplans, budgets, procurement and communication plans.

  • Facilitate Project Steering Committee meetings, PIR processes, legal agreement extensions and project closure.

  • Support oversight of planetGOLD, develop PIF and PPG packages, and prepare Minamata Convention MIA and NAP projects.

  • Conduct terminal evaluations of Minamata Convention enabling activities.

  • Support integration across Chemicals & Waste and other GEF focal areas.

    Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Advanced university degree in social or environmental sciences (chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental studies, environmental engineering or related field) required.

  • First‑level degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced degree.

  • Minimum 2 years’ project management experience, including international exposure.

  • Working knowledge of GEF project development and supervision required.

  • Experience implementing mercury‑related projects required.
