United Nations Environment Programme Software Engineer Consultant Jobs in Kenya; The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Software Engineer (Consultant) to support the digital development of the Environmental Data Capacity (EDC) Toolkit and the World Environment Situation Room (WESR) Knowledge Hub. This role will provide front‑end and back‑end engineering capacity to build, integrate, and maintain digital tools that advance UNEP’s Global Environmental Data Strategy (GEDS) implementation milestones for 2026.


Role Objective

  • Support design, development, and deployment of WESR use cases, including the digital EDC Toolkit.

  • Contribute to front‑end and back‑end development of WESR tools and applications.

  • Support testing, troubleshooting, and iterative refinement of digital tools based on user feedback.

  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge transfer for long‑term maintenance.

    Qualifications / Special Skills
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Advanced Statistical Analysis, IT, or Software Engineering.

  • Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in database development, archiving, and software systems analysis/design.

  • Experience in complex web application projects.

  • Experience with
    UN agencies or international organizations desirable.

  • Experience in workflow automation and service request tracking solutions required.

  • Experience working in teams, coordinating junior members, and engaging with clients required.

  • Experience working with multicultural teams desirable.

    Languages
  • Fluency in English required.

  • Knowledge of another UN official language desirable.
