United Nations Environment Programme Programme Management Officer Jobs in Kenya;The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

UNEP’s Ecosystems Division drives conservation, restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems to achieve benefits for nature and people. The position is located in the Nature Frameworks Support Unit (NFSU), Biodiversity & Land Branch, Ecosystems Division, Nairobi duty station. Under the direct supervision of the Head of NFSU, the incumbent will provide programme management support across biodiversity and multilateral environmental agreements.

Responsibilities

Coordinate Global Environment Facility (GEF) Biodiversity Enabling Activities, including NBSAP updates and national reporting to UNCBD and UNCCD.

Facilitate coordination of UNEP projects funded by the Kunming Biodiversity Fund.

Provide technical and analytical support for implementation of UNEA resolutions under NFSU.

Monitor and analyze programme/project development and implementation, identify operational issues and propose solutions.

Manage and supervise staff involved in biodiversity programme activities.

Support engagement with Member States and partners through workshops and consultations.

Contribute to inter‑agency coordination processes and working groups.

Participate in field missions, coordinate consultants and prepare mission outputs.

Support budget and project management processes, including work programmes, progress reports and financial documentation.

Prepare briefings, speeches and technical inputs for senior management.

Support knowledge management and information sharing across projects and partners.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in biodiversity conservation, environmental science, sustainable development or related field required.

First‑level degree with qualifying experience may be accepted.

Training in data analytics, business analytics or data science desirable.

Work Experience

Minimum of seven (7) years’ progressively responsible experience in biodiversity conservation project or programme management required.

Experience managing or coordinating diverse teams in biodiversity required.

Experience with Regional or Multilateral Environmental Agreements desirable.

Experience collaborating across international organisations or UN agencies desirable.

Knowledge of GEF processes desirable.

Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics desirable.

Languages

English required.

French desirable.
