United Nations Environment Programme Nature Subprogramme Strategic Communications Consultant Jobs in Kenya; The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Strategic Communications Consultant to support the Director’s Office of the Ecosystems Division. The successful candidate will enhance the visibility of the Division’s impact and outputs under the Nature Sub‑programme, providing expertise in communications, partnership engagement, and strategic positioning in global debates on biodiversity, ecosystems, and sustainable development.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop clear, concise, and descriptive communication materials that highlight the Division’s work and raise UNEP’s profile.

  • Prepare and review briefing notes, speaking points, publication forewords, media articles, and interview preparation materials.

  • Conduct analytical reviews and compile substantive messages in collaboration with technical and policy experts.

  • Coordinate planning and delivery of strategic engagement in key events, anticipating opportunities for communication outcomes.

  • Monitor news and policy agendas to identify opportunities for UNEP’s timely contributions to global debates.

  • Provide alerts and recommendations to enhance visibility of the Nature Sub‑programme.

    Qualifications / Special Skills
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, or related field.

  • First‑level degree with two additional years of qualifying
    experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in communications or related fields.

  • Experience preparing communication and advocacy materials in international organizational settings, particularly in environmental contexts.

  • Knowledge and expertise in diverse environment and sustainable development issues desirable.

    Languages
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.

  • Knowledge of other UN official languages desirable.
