United Nations Environment Programme Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) Consultant Jobs in Kenya;The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Consultant to support the initial operationalization of the Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) Framework Policy. The role will review existing systems, identify gaps, and develop accountability and training tools to strengthen UNEP’s compliance with international human rights standards.

Key Responsibilities

Framework Review & Gap Analysis

  • Review and map UNEP systems and procedures against HRDD requirements.

  • Develop a practical HRDD gap analysis methodology and assessment framework.

  • Analyze existing due diligence and risk management processes, identifying gaps, overlaps, and risks.

    Benchmarking & Accountability

  • Benchmark practices from other UN entities implementing HRDD.

  • Draft UNEP HRDD Accountability Framework aligned with UN policy.

  • Provide recommendations on governance structures, roles, responsibilities, escalation pathways, oversight, monitoring, and reporting.

    Guidance & Training

  • Develop practical staff guidance and implementation tools.

  • Create training materials tailored to UNEP operational contexts.

  • Support staff capacity‑building for HRDD implementation.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in international law required.

  • First‑level degree with two additional years
    of experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in human rights due diligence, governance, compliance, or institutional risk management.

  • Expertise in international human rights and humanitarian law frameworks required.

  • Experience developing institutional accountability frameworks desirable.

  • Legal advisory experience in human rights compliance required.

  • Ability to translate policy into operational procedures desirable.

  • Strong drafting, communication, and training design skills desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • French desirable.
