United Nations Environment Programme High-Level Strategic Advisor Jobs in Kenya; The High‑Level Strategic Advisor will provide political engagement, advocacy, and partnership development to elevate the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) globally. The role strengthens visibility, mobilizes support, and promotes the benefits of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, working closely with the Steering Committee and Global Coordination Unit (GCU).


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Political Engagement

  • Provide strategic advice on political priorities and engagement strategies to advance the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

  • Prepare ministerial dialogues, Steering Committee meetings, bilateral engagements, and biodiversity events.

  • Identify emerging political opportunities and advise on strengthening country ownership.

  • Represent the Partnership at selected high‑level meetings and international events.


    Strategic Advisory Role

  • Ensure alignment between political engagement, resource mobilization, and operational delivery.

  • Guide preparation for high‑level engagements, including COPs and Steering Committee meetings.

  • Provide advice on political economy and opportunities for advancing NBSAP implementation.

  • Offer insight on positioning, stakeholder engagement, and global advocacy strategies.

  • Represent the Accelerator in high‑level discussions, side‑events, and donor bilaterals.

  • Report periodically to Co‑Chairs and Steering Committee for alignment.


    Partnership & Resource Mobilisation

  • Engage with Accelerator members, supporters, and donors to deepen partnerships.

  • Lead outreach to traditional and non‑traditional donors to secure long‑term funding.

  • Foster strategic relationships
    and open institutional pathways for scaled support.


    Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced university degree in biodiversity conservation, international development, environmental science, economics, management, or related field.

  • First‑level degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum 15 years’ progressively responsible experience in international biodiversity conservation, policy, planning, or partnership building.

  • At least 5 years managing and coordinating international programmes in environment‑related fields.

  • Track record in building strategic alliances, partnerships, and resource mobilization.

  • Experience with Multilateral Environment Agreements desirable.

  • Strong fundraising experience desirable.


    Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.

  • Working knowledge of French desirable.

  • Knowledge of another UN language (Spanish or German) an advantage.
