United Nations Environment Programme Green HDV Consultant Jobs in Kenya; UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes coherent implementation of sustainable development, and serves as an advocate for the global environment.

The Industry and Economy Division encourages governments, local authorities, and industry to adopt sustainable policies, strategies, and technologies.

The Sustainable Mobility Unit (SMU) promotes low‑ and zero‑emissions transport in low‑ and middle‑income countries through projects on cleaner fuels, electric mobility, active mobility, and transport digitalisation.

Specific Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer for Green Freight, the consultant will:

  • Develop a report detailing at least three South‑South knowledge exchanges (online) between the Bi‑Oceanic Corridor, Northern Corridor, Central Corridor, Abidjan‑Lagos Corridor, Southern Africa Corridor, or ASEAN region.

  • Provide technical assistance for the development of the Green Freight Strategy and Action Plan for the Abidjan‑Lagos Corridor.

  • Develop a strategy for UNEP support to e‑BRT and e‑bus projects in African cities, replicable across sub‑regions.

  • Develop a stakeholder engagement report related to the development of an HDV electrification roadmap or strategy in the SADC region.

  • Develop a scale‑up concept and funding proposal to expand the UNEP Green Freight Programme.

    Qualifications / Special Skills
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in engineering, transport, or related
    field.

  • First‑level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.

  • Minimum three years’ work experience in transport projects in African countries.

  • Knowledge of transport issues in Africa, with strong research experience in African transport systems.

  • Experience in data collection and research required.

  • Experience in data analysis and modelling highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with transport planning frameworks and transport modelling highly desirable.

    Languages
  • English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.

  • Fluency in oral and written English required.
