United Nations Environment Programme Freshwater & Urban Resilience Expert Jobs in Kenya; Support the EC‑funded project “Implementation and reinforcement of global water resolutions, preparation and follow‑up to UNEA‑7 and the UN Water Conferences 2026 & 2028”. Provide technical expertise and coordination for national and global water governance activities, ensuring inclusive, gender‑responsive, and climate‑smart approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support integration of water‑related elements into national planning instruments (NDCs, NAPs, NBSAPs, NAPAs/NDPs).

  • Provide technical inputs (background notes, session concepts, logistics) for major global fora including UNFCCC COP31, UN 2026 Water Conference, World Water Forum, World Water Week.

  • Develop 3 joint project concepts with UN‑Water partners to advance UNEA6 Resolution 6/13 on integrated water governance, policy coherence, and international cooperation.

  • Publish 2 gender‑responsive guidance documents with related webinars/events at COPs and policy fora (UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD, G20, WEF, Ramsar Convention).

  • Conduct ad hoc south‑south and triangular exchanges documenting best practices in IWRM, drought resilience, and Indigenous/local knowledge.

  • Organize inclusive stakeholder sessions under the Baku Dialogue, ensuring youth, Indigenous, and gender equity participation.

  • Provide resource mobilization support, including concept notes and funding proposals.

  • Contribute to project reporting, indicator tracking, and
    results monitoring.

    Qualifications & Special Skills

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, Urban Planning, Ecology, or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in freshwater/water resources management, urban ecosystem conservation, or climate resilience.

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, multi‑partner coordination, and intergovernmental processes (UNEA, UN‑Water, UNFCCC).

  • Proven ability to prepare technical knowledge products (briefs, guidance, event materials).

  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office; database/indicator tools desirable).

  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.

  • Fluency in English required; Spanish knowledge an advantage.
