United Nations Environment Programme Finance Assistant Jobs in Kenya; UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda and advocates for sustainable development.The Ecosystems Division provides technical assistance and advisory services to strengthen environmental management capacity in developing countries and economies in transition.
This position is located in the Programme of Work (POW) Finance Unit at the Nairobi duty station.
Responsibilities
Budget:
Provide support in reviewing, analyzing, and preparing the medium-term plan and revisions
Prepare supporting documents (narrative and tables) for cost estimates and budget proposals
Assist managers in elaborating resource requirements for budget submissions
Undertake research and support higher-level Finance & Budget Officers in budget reviews
Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and prepare adjustments as necessary
Review requisitions for goods/services to ensure correct expenditure charges and fund availability
Assist in preparation and finalization of budget performance reports, analyzing variances
Monitor integrity of financial databases and verify accuracy of input data
Coordinate with finance and budget staff during preparation of budget reports
File and archive documents as required
General:
Keep up to date on documents/reports/guidelines related to programme finance
Draft correspondence to respond to enquiries on financial and budget matters
Maintain and update files
Provide guidance, training, and supervision to general service staff as required
Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of presentations/reports for knowledge management and decision-making
Support visualizations and update information materials (web pages, brochures)
Perform other related duties as assigned

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Job-Specific Qualification
Additional training or qualification in finance and budget desirable
Work Experience
Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project budget management required
Minimum reduced to 5 years for candidates with a first-level university degree
Experience with ERP software (Umoja, Inspira, or similar) required
Experience in administration and project financial management required
Experience with UN system or similar international organizations desirable
At least 1 year of experience in data analytics desirable
Languages
English required
French is a working language of the UN Secretariat
