United Nations Environment Programme Finance and Budget Officer Jobs in Kenya


General Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends, providing insights through graphs, charts and reports.

  • Advise and train on budgetary and financial policies, including results‑based budgeting.

  • Participate in inter‑departmental meetings and technical missions on resource and budgetary issues.

  • Stay updated on documents and guidelines, ensuring compliance with UN policies and intergovernmental decisions.

  • Draft reports and correspondence for intergovernmental bodies and management.

  • Research and analyze budgetary policies, recommending changes or modifications.

  • Act as Certifying Officer under Financial Rule 110.4 to ensure obligations and expenditures comply with regulations.

  • Liaise with UNEP Corporate Services Division, UN Secretariat, UNDP and UNOPS on financial and administrative matters.

  • Ensure integrity of financial and management systems and controls.

  • Represent the Division in meetings of legislative organs and inter/intra‑departmental forums.

  • May plan, organize, manage and supervise the work of assigned units.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field required.

  • First‑level degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.

  • Training in data analytics, business analytics or data
    science desirable.

    Work Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ progressively responsible experience in finance, administration, budget or related area.

  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems required.

  • Experience preparing/analyzing financial statements under IFRS or IPSAS required.

  • Experience providing financial management and administrative services to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) or international treaties required.

  • Experience with data analysis, reconciliations and reporting required.

  • Experience preparing reports for intergovernmental bodies or donors desirable.

  • Experience in international organizations such as the UN desirable.
