United Nations Environment Programme Environment statistics and analysis Jobs in Kenya; UNEP’s Office of Science delivers authoritative, integrated science to inform action and guide policy processes addressing interconnected environmental challenges. The Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section (DASIS) focuses on statistical analysis, foresight, global monitoring, and development of standards and indicators.

  • The intern will report to the Programme Management Officer (Statistician) of DASIS.

    Responsibilities

  • Process and analyze available environmental data and statistics

  • Support development and preparation of metadata for environmental indicators

  • Assist in data collection on SDG indicators under UNEP custodianship

  • Review statistical publications and assist in methodological research

  • Organize and support meetings with partners inside and outside UNEP

  • Assist in creation of project documentation repositories and publication of materials on UNEP websites

  • Support development and dissemination of communication and outreach materials

  • Undertake other tasks as required by the office and aligned with intern’s background

    Qualifications / Special Skills

    Education:

  • Applicants must meet one of the following:

    Enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or higher)

    Enrolled in final academic year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent)

    Graduated with a university degree and commencing internship within one year
    of graduation

    Additional Requirements:

  • Computer literacy in standard software applications required

  • Demonstrated interest in the work of the UN and commitment to the Charter required

  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds required

  • Field of study in statistics, sociology, environmental economics, environmental assessments, environmental monitoring, data science, or related field required

    Work Experience

  • No professional work experience required

  • Field of study closely related to internship type required

    Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English required

  • Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an advantage
