United Nations Environment Programme Editor and Writer Jobs in Kenya; Provide strategic editorial, communications, and outreach support to UNEP’s freshwater‑related policy, governance, and stakeholder engagement activities. This includes UNEA freshwater resolutions, the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action, UN‑Water coordination, preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference, and broader freshwater governance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, edit, proofread, and publish freshwater technical reports, guidance documents, strategic papers, consultation summaries, communication materials, and knowledge products.
Develop and disseminate communication and outreach materials for global freshwater, climate, and environmental governance processes.
Prepare communication products and visibility materials for high‑level meetings, COPs, webinars, regional consultations, stakeholder dialogues, and global water‑related fora.
Support communication coordination and visibility for strategic freshwater initiatives, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
Produce and update website and digital communication content, including online stories, technical highlights, multimedia assets, and social media materials.
Strengthen stakeholder engagement with inclusive communication for Member States, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and women.
Document and synthesize technical inputs, consultation outcomes, best practices, and lessons learned.
Coordinate advocacy and campaign materials to support freshwater‑related policy priorities.
Support internal communication, coordination, and knowledge‑sharing processes within UNEP and among partners.
Liaise with technical experts, project partners, consultants, and communication focal points to ensure coherence and timely dissemination.
Objectives & Deliverables
Strengthen quality, consistency, visibility, and dissemination of UNEP freshwater communication.
Support drafting and publication
of strategic reports and technical papers.
Enhance communication for major international events and consultations.
Develop inclusive materials reflecting gender‑responsive and Indigenous knowledge approaches.
Update UNEP’s digital platforms with strategic outreach assets.
Performance Indicators: Timely delivery of high‑quality outputs, effective support for events, improved visibility, increased stakeholder engagement, and communication products that support policy advocacy.
Qualifications & Special Skills
Bachelor’s degree in language/communication studies + 4 years’ experience, or Master’s degree + 2 years’ experience.
At least 4 years in environment‑related communication and outreach.
Strong writing, editing, and multi‑disciplinary team experience.
Knowledge of website development and promotion.
Ability to plan, organize, implement, and report under pressure.
Cultural, gender, and diversity sensitivity.
Languages
Fluency in English required.
Fluency in French or another UN language is an advantage.
