United Nations Environment Programme Consultant on Carbon Credit Pathways for Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture in Curitiba Jobs in Kenya


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to municipalities and states engaged in the TEEBAgriFood initiative.

  • Identify and analyse relevant cross‑sectoral policies related to urban and peri‑urban agriculture (UPA).

  • Highlight entry points, gaps and opportunities for policy integration.

  • Collaborate to adapt proposed legal and policy instruments to municipal contexts.

    Outputs / Work Assignment

  • Collect and curate data from urban agriculture projects with carbon components (e.g., composting, rock dust, biochar, SAFs).

  • Measure four carbon stocks (aerial biomass, below‑ground biomass, dead matter, soil) in Curitiba sites with agroecological practices.

  • Compare with baseline to assess CO₂ removal potential for carbon credit generation.

  • Draft structure for a municipal market for environmental assets, aligned with national and municipal Climate Plan revision.

    Qualifications & Special Skills

    Academic

  • Advanced university degree (Masters or above) in Environmental Science or related fields.

  • First‑level degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.

    Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in carbon market assessment and carbon analysis.

  • Experience working in Curitiba and its biome is desirable.

    Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of Brazilian institutional, political and regulatory context related to environmental asset markets.

  • Strong understanding of climate change, nature‑based solutions, ecosystem services and human‑nature relationships.

  • Knowledge of local governance, policy processes and institutional landscape of Curitiba.

  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously in fast‑paced environments using participatory approaches.

  • Ability to translate technical evidence into accessible, policy‑relevant recommendations.
