United Nations Environment Programme Battery End of Life Consultant Jobs in Kenya; The candidate will support the Sustainable Mobility Unit in delivering a comprehensive assessment report to design a regional hub-and-spoke model for collection, consolidation, and transboundary shipment of end-of-life EV batteries in Caribbean Island Countries.

Responsibilities

Administration of Assessment Report:

  • Stock take of existing battery imports, exports, and EV registrations in Caribbean Island countries and potential hub locations

  • Analysis of current battery waste flows, projected future volumes, and disposal/export practices

  • Assessment of infrastructure readiness in Caribbean Island countries and potential hub locations (storage, collection, packaging, transport capabilities)

  • Mapping of shipping/freight routes, logistics providers, aggregation opportunities, and safety requirements for transfrontier shipment

  • Identification of institutional gaps and functional barriers (regulatory, technical, logistical)

  • Mapping of key stakeholders (Basel Focal Points, Customs, waste operators, shipping companies, etc.) and their potential roles

  • 5 months

    Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform stock take of battery imports/exports and EV registrations

  • Analyze waste flows, projections, and disposal/export practices

  • Assess infrastructure readiness across Caribbean Island countries and hubs

  • Map shipping/freight routes and logistics providers

  • Identify institutional gaps and barriers to hub-and-spoke implementation

  • Map stakeholders and define their roles in the system

    Qualifications / Special Skills

    Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in engineering,
    transport, or related field required

  • First-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted

    Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in transport projects or battery waste management in Latin America/Caribbean required

  • Knowledge of transport issues in Latin America/Caribbean, with strong research experience in transport systems and waste management required

  • Experience in data collection and research required

  • Experience in battery waste management required

  • Experience in data analysis and modelling skills required

  • Experience in report development desirable

  • Familiarity with transport planning frameworks and modelling highly desirable

  • Proven analytical, presentation, and communication skills desirable

    Languages

  • Fluency in oral and written English required

  • French is also a working language of the UN Secretariat
