United Nations Environment Programme Associate Programme Management Officer Jobs in Kenya; This position is located in the Executive Office of UNEP at the Nairobi duty station.The office of the Deputy Executive Director (DED) provides oversight to UNEP’s effective delivery of the Medium-Term Strategy (MTS), Programme of Work (PoW), and UN Reform.

  • The role provides organizational, administrative, and substantive support to the Special Assistant in advising and assisting the DED in daily execution of duties.

    Responsibilities

  • Works with Programme Coordinator to facilitate development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews documents and reports; identifies problems and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; tracks follow-up actions

  • Carries out basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations, and activities; collects, analyzes, and presents statistical data and information from diverse sources

  • Drafts/compiles information communications products for target audiences (press releases, media packets, reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, websites)

  • Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including review and analysis of emerging issues and trends; participates in evaluations or research activities and studies; assists senior officials with briefing notes, background papers, and talking points

  • Prepares summaries of articles from various sources; drafts correspondence and sections of reports

  • Participates in survey initiatives; assists with design of data collection tools; issues tools, reviews and analyzes responses, identifies problems, and prepares preliminary conclusions

  • Contributes to preparation of written outputs (background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports, inputs to publications)

  • Provides administrative and substantive support to meetings, conferences, and missions (agenda topics, participants, background documents, presentations, logistics)

  • Contributes to collection and analysis of data, identification of trends/patterns, and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods

  • Performs other duties as required

    Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, Management, Law, Economics, or related field required

  • First-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted

  • Completion of degree/non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science desirable

    Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental project/programme management, strategic planning, policy implementation, or related area required

  • Experience providing substantive, coordination, or advisory support to senior/high-level officials required

  • Proven experience drafting, editing, and presenting high-quality technical, policy, and donor-facing documents required

  • Experience developing, coordinating, and managing international environmental programmes, including multi-country initiatives in developing/transition economies required

  • Experience within the UN common system or similar international organization desirable

  • 1+ year of experience in data analytics desirable

    Languages

  • English and French required

  • Spanish desirable
