United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Economic Affairs Intern Jobs in Ethiopia;The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) promotes inclusive and sustainable development through trade, investment, finance, and technology. The Regional Office for Africa (ROA) supports African countries in advancing UNCTAD’s mandate.

About the Internship

The internship will tentatively start on 17 August 2026 for an initial period of three months. Interns are expected to work five days per week (40 hours). The internship is unpaid. Interns must cover their own travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses.

Remote interns must have secure computer systems with updated software, firewalls, and password managers to access UNCTAD resources.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Dissemination

  • Support dissemination of UNCTAD’s research.

  • Assist in developing concept notes and project proposals.

  • Undertake analysis on topical African issues related to UNCTAD’s mandate.

  • Identify updated and new research documents.

    Programme Support

  • Assist in organizing briefings, meetings, and workshops with stakeholders.

  • Prepare briefing notes, workshop reports, and compile statistics.

  • Attend and summarize conferences and meetings.

  • Identify initiatives and major meetings where UNCTAD can participate.

    Information Management

  • Update office databases and catalog information.

  • Perform internet‑based research.

  • Support documentation and reporting requirements.

    General Obligations

  • Observe UN rules, regulations, and directives.

  • Provide
    copies of all materials prepared during internship to UNCTAD.

  • Respect impartiality and independence of the UN.

  • Maintain confidentiality and avoid unauthorized communication.

  • Refrain from conduct incompatible with UN aims and objectives.

    Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (Master’s/PhD) OR final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s).

  • Degree must be in Economics.

  • Computer literacy in MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams required.

  • Strong interest in UN work and commitment to the Charter.

  • Ability to interact with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Ability to conduct desktop research and draft concept notes desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in English required.

  • Knowledge of French desirable.
