  • The crises in the North East Nigeria has taken the form of protracted crises and it is imperative that UNICEF takes consideration of emergency and early recovery needs while laying a ground for development and upstream work. Therefore the UNDERLINING principle of UNICEF Education in Emergency Strategy in North East Nigeria is based on a holistic approach to enhance UNICEF response to the protracted crises in North East Nigeria to deliver timely and effective humanitarian education response and within this context UNICEF will lay the ground for reform of the whole education system in North-East states(long-term intervention and upstream engagement).

    How can you make a difference?

  • Under the direct supervision of the Education Manager and in close collaboration with the Communication and Monitoring Specialists in the field office, the Monitoring Officer performs a variety of information gathering, monitoring, writing and technical services, in support of Education section programme activities.

  • He/she will be responsible for supporting the Education team in the development of communication and advocacy materials through human interest stories, drafting donor reports and contributing to the team’s social media footprint. Borno Field Office has committed to achieving targets for delivery of humanitarian and developmental assistance across all its programmes in North East Nigeria and it is the role of the Monitoring Officer to systematically report UNICEF’s progress against these targets.

    Key Responsibilities / Tasks

  • Work mainly with Education Section and other relevant sections (as required) in the preparation of high-quality briefings and donor reports by standardizing formats, contents and ensuring adherence to donor requirements. Provide quality assurance of reports and proposals.

  • Maintain and improve a donor reporting database to track fundraising against programme needs and to inform Education Manager on development, submission status of proposals and to monitor funding received and utilized.

  • Support the UNICEF Education team through information sharing and donor visit preparation and execution when required.

  • Provide assistance in the lessons learnt from UNICEF’s operations experience for adoption of the best practices
    and standards for subsequent interventions. Collate and analyse data from national and field office locations and prepare trend analysis.

  • Support effective engagement with key partners and donors

  • Support in development of human-interest stories, case studies and social media posts.

  • Support the communication unit in the field office, as may be required.

    Requirements

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

  • University degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Social Science or a field relevant to the post.

  • Minimum two years of professional work experience relevant to the functions of post.

  • Experience of working with other UN agencies/INGOs is desirable.

  • Excellent written and spoken English required. Working knowledge of local languages Hausa and/or Kanuri is highly desirable.
