The purpose of the internship would be to serve in the evaluation unit of the UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office (CO). The unit is in charge mainly of the planning and management of UNICEF CO lead evaluations, support to regional office and HQ for the evaluations they lead in the country, and of the growing National Evaluation Capacity Development initiatives.

The intern will be based in Addis Abeba, with possible field missions in other regions.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Evaluation specialist, the intern will undertake the following (non-exhaustive) tasks:

  • Support in the implementation of the evaluation unit plan (including, possibly, some administrative tasks);

  • Take responsibilities and initiative in the National Evaluation Capacity Development initiatives supported by the unit;

  • Take the lead in the systematization and storage in online systems and archives;

  • Be key resource person in child-centered evaluations;

  • Take the lead in linking the unit to youth groups working on related issues;

  • Take the lead in connecting with "EvalYouth" and creating initiatives
    for young evaluators in the country and for promoting the evaluation culture among young colleagues in the office.

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • He or she should be enrolled at a university in Ethiopia at the undergraduate or graduate level or be a recent graduate (within the past two years) in development studies, social sciences, statistics, economics, education, health sciences, behavioral studies, law or related fields is required.

  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of more than a language spoken in Ethiopia is an advantage.

  • Being active in human rights, child rights, women rights, youth related initiatives (including in university groups, sport clubs, others) is an asset.

  • Experience in research/evaluation and fieldwork/data collection among marginalized/vulnerable communities, including children, is an asset.
