UNICEF Ethiopia Internship: Education Intern Jobs in Ethiopia

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a future

Approximately 2.4 million children have been out of school across the Tigray Region for over nearly two years due to Covid-19 pandemic and year-long conflict. Over this period, children have not accessed any form of learning, likely causing irreversible learning losses, and further contributing to unequal access to education.

At the same time, children faced an increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence, child marriage and early pregnancy, recruitment into armed forces, child labor and malnutrition. With the peace process in Tigray, the Regional Education Bureau (REB) and Ministry of Education have prioritized reopening schools after remaining closed for about two years.

Under the overall supervision of Education Specialist (P3) in Mekelle Education Specialist (NOB) in Shire, UNICEF is seeking two interns for the Tigray Field office to be based in Mekelle and Shire.

The intern(s) will be supporting the education programme to monitor and plan for the school reopening process by collecting data collection on the status of schools, adherence to safe school reopening guidelines and minimum standards of the REB, and monitoring UNICEF interventions with a focus on school reconstruction, rehabilitation and repair and maintenance interventions across the region.

The intern(s) may also support research on issues related to barriers to education (or another relevant area related to the UNICEF education programme and an area of the candidates studies) and will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the WASH, child protection, nutrition and health sections to identify areas of inter-sectoral needs or areas for collaboration between the UNICEF programmes.
