  • The purpose of the assignment is to document the analytical work carried out by the NIPN Analysis Unit at UBOS and the Policy Unit at OPM and develop different knowledge products and communication materials that will contribute to improve policies and programmes. In addition, the assignment will include capacity strengthening activities on nutrition documentation directed to governmental and non-governmental nutrition stakeholders in Uganda.

  • The consultant will work closely with the Policy Unit at OPM and the Analysis Unit at UBOS to identify the areas for documentation and develop knowledge products using the evidence from data collection activities targeting a wide range of audiences.

  • The Senior Documentation Specialist will work under the guidance of the Director of NIPN, Director of Socio-Economic Surveys at UBOS and UNICEF Nutrition Manager.

  • A fortnightly written update will be provided by the Senior Documentation consultant to the NIPN core group (UNICEF, OPM and UBOS). UNICEF, UBOS and the Consultant will meet on monthly basis to review the progress of deliverables

    Key Tasks

    The consultant will undertake the following;

  • Develop and finalise all NIPN knowledge products developed until now, including those related to the Nutrition Situation Analysis Report

  • Collect and synthesize systematically key relevant cross-sectorial evidence on nutrition produced by NIPN Analysis Unit and national partners, academic and research institutions
    Draw on available data to produce timely and regular policy briefs and other relevant knowledge products to inform cross-sectorial programming

  • Work closely with the NIPN Policy Unit to identify the policy areas for nutrition to develop the advocacy or policy briefs to inform multi-sectoral as well as sector-specific programming

  • Work with the NIPN Analysis Unit to collect the periodic summary statistics and develop a relevant fact sheets or working papers.

  • Support the NIPN Policy Unit to document the best practices for nutrition and develop synthesized reports

  • Support NIPN Analysis Unit with key data visualisation and
    prepare relevant presentations

  • Strengthen the capacity of the staff at the NIPN analysis unit and policy unit, as well as sectoral technical staff and expert advisors, on nutrition documentation.

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

    Education requirements

  • An advanced university degree in global/public health nutrition, nutrition, food sciences, social sciences, information and knowledge management, communications or any related subject

    Employment Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience at national and/or international levels in the area of information and knowledge management, documentation or report writing is required

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in the area of public health, food security and/or nutrition is required

  • Proven track record of working on documentation of nutrition projects and publication of reports, best achievements and lessons.

  • Familiarity with multi-sectoral actions and system strengthening to improve nutrition outcomes.

  • A record of publications and/or advocacy products is required

  • Language requirement: Fluency in English required

    Required Skills and Expertise

  • Proven report-writing skills, with an ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and simplified style, demonstrated through past experience in developing briefs or reports

  • Excellent computer skills and various office applications;

  • Demonstrated experience of integrating and synthesizing diverse and complex quantitative and qualitative data from a wide range of sources into knowledge products;

  • Analytical and conceptual ability

    Others

  • Builds rapport with individuals and groups;

  • maintains an effective network of individuals across organizational departments

  • Knowledge of UN and international humanitarian policies is a strong asset

  • Experience working in a developing country with an understanding of policy dynamics is a strong asset
