In Kakuma, unified registration started in 12 July 2017, and both UNHCR and Government of Kenya, Refugee Affairs Secretariat (RAS) are conducting registration activities together with an understanding that all aspects of refugee protection and assistance will work with a common set of core registration data, gathered through a common process and adhering to common standards.

In Kakuma, RAS registration staff have been continuously training in order to perform regular registration activities.

The Registration Assistant is a member of the Registration team and is supervised by a more senior member of the team who normally reports directly to the Registration Officer/RSD Officer.

The Kakuma operation conducted its last verification exercise in 2018 in Kalobeyei settlement and a planned verification exercise for Kakuma Camp in 2019. With the rollout of ProGres V4and the increase service delivery to persons of concern by UNHCR and partners through innovative tools, there is an increase need for more support staff to assist with enrollment of POCs in KASI, BIMs, Reactivation interviews, birth certificate distribution, various list verification, continuous registration,General Food distribution and proof of life.

With the automated application and processing of Movement Pass, the enrollment in KASI has increased. Based on the above identified needs, the registration assistant would be required to carryout these functions for a period of 3 months.

The Registration Assistant may provide interpretation and/or translation services in cases for which s/he has the required language competencies.


Responsibilities


  • Verify and enroll individuals through BIMs and IRIS
  • Enroll
    POCs in Kasi
  • Update telephone numbers of POCs on ProGres/Kasi
  • Participate in Kakuma verification exercise
  • Conduct continuous registration activities
  • Flag special needs cases with relevant units
  • Conduct reactivation interviews and submit to panel
  • Conduct Onward movers screening interviews
  • Assist with birth certificate distribution where necessary
  • Assist during General food distribution and Proof of life
  • Verify various lists from other units in ProGres
  • Submit weekly report to UNHCR on the progress of the project.
  • Act as interpreter and translator when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


    Requirements


  • Completion of secondary education preferably with post-secondary training or certificate in social science, statistics,mathematics, information technology or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant job experience (3 years with post-secondary certificate/training).
  • Good computer skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and local language.
  • Training in basic principles of international protection.
  • Experience in working with UNHCR progress and BIMS software.
  • Knowledge of another relevant UN language.
