UN-Habitat Intern - Programme Management Jobs in Kenya



Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned to.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the interns' assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the chief Urban Basic Services Section, the intern will:

  • Support UN-Habitat’s engagement with the World Economic Forum.

  • Assist in carrying out research and studies on a range of urban policy topics.

  • Carry out mapping and analyze data on selected topics relevant to the content and management of the urban policies e.g., through internal surveys and analysis. Aid the compilation and review of progress on human settlement and urban-related indicators.

  • Support the collection, curation, and dissemination of urban policies and knowledge, including case studies, impact stories, lessons learned, and technical reports. Aid in the design of context-specific resources and materials relevant to the Global Future Council on Cities 2023-2024.

  • Provide updates on relevant emerging issues on urbanization to inform project/programme development.

  • Support the organization, cataloging, and analysis of information contained in communications, submissions, and publications received from different sources on the state of urbanization for the Global Future Council on Cities.

  • Assist in the preparation of draft concept papers, background documents, and position papers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);

  • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

  • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Preferred areas of study:

  • International Relations, Urban Development, Management and Administration, Social Sciences or any other related field of study.

    Work Experience

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

  • Knowledge of project/programme support is required,

  • Experience in research and analysis is desirable.

  • An understanding of UN-Habitat engagement with the World Economic Forum is desirable.
