Unga Holding Mechanical Technician Jobs in Kenya;Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Technician will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on property, plant, and equipment to achieve overall efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance
Develop, implement, and adjust maintenance schedules for assigned jobs
Conduct preventive and condition‑based maintenance of machines as per procedures
Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures through inspection and testing; prescribe corrective actions
Ensure efficient machine operations during shift cover
Initiate purchase requisitions for spare parts
Identify and report misuse of assets (machines, spares, tools)
Modify, improve, and innovate machinery to enhance efficiency
Perform maintenance checks on building structures and facilities
Conduct basic maintenance of plant utilities (generators, compressors, etc.)
Support maintenance of building, facility, and machines at the Central Support Office
Carry out other duties assigned by the supervisor
Maintenance Reporting
Inspect machine operations and record accurate data (pressures, temperatures, etc.)
Log details of work performed for planning and historical records
Capture correct task details and time taken on job cards
Communication & Accountability
Improve process accountability through face‑to‑face discussions
Ensure effective communication and participate in conflict resolution
Escalate chronic issues requiring urgent attention
Continual Improvement Initiatives
Support PaTaMu, CI, ERM, and 6K initiatives and objectives
Offer support and training to AM team members
Generate improvement ideas and participate in CI projects
Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu
Identify
process challenges and use PDCA to address bottlenecks
Support activities around Unga’s culture code – FIRST
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) & Food Safety
Support SHE and GMP/FSMS initiatives and objectives
Identify and report quality and food safety issues during operations
Participate in workplace safety trainings
Ensure adherence and compliance with safety requirements
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements
BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Knowledge of preventive maintenance, mechanical installations, welding, and fabrication
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a busy manufacturing company
Competence in troubleshooting, problem‑solving, team building, planning, and decision‑making
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
