Unga Holding Mechanical Technician Jobs in Kenya; Unga Holding is seeking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to join its maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on property, plant, and equipment to ensure efficiency, reliability, and compliance with company standards.
Main Function
Responsible for maintaining plant equipment, troubleshooting mechanical issues, supporting continual improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety and food safety requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance
Process, plan, implement, and control maintenance schedules for assigned jobs.
Perform preventive and condition‑based maintenance of machines.
Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures and prescribe corrective actions.
Ensure efficient machine operations during shift cover.
Initiate purchase requisitions for spare parts.
Identify and report misuse of assets such as machines, spares, and tools.
Modify and improve machines to enhance efficiency.
Conduct maintenance checks on building structures and facilities.
Perform basic maintenance of plant utilities (generators, compressors, etc.).
Support maintenance of building, facilities, and machines at the Central Support Office.
Maintenance Reporting
Inspect machine operations and record accurate data such as pressures and temperatures.
Log details of work performed for future planning and service history.
Capture correct and accurate data on job cards.
Communication & Accountability
Improve accountability through face‑to‑face discussions.
Ensure effective communication within the team.
Participate in conflict resolution and escalate chronic issues.
Continual Improvement Initiatives
Support PaTaMu, CI, ERM, and 6K initiatives.
Offer support and training to AM team members.
Generate improvement ideas and participate in CI projects.
Improve
operational efficiencies through PaTaMu.
Identify process challenges and use PDCA to address bottlenecks.
Support activities around Unga’s culture code – FIRST.
Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) & Food Safety
Support SHE and GMP/FSMS initiatives.
Identify and report quality and food safety issues.
Participate in workplace safety trainings.
Ensure adherence to safety requirements.
Minimum Requirements
BSc or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance, installations, welding, and fabrication.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a busy manufacturing company.
Competence in troubleshooting, problem‑solving, team building, planning, and decision‑making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
