  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

  • UN Environment's Communication Division communicates UN Environment's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UN Environment worldwide.

  • This post is located in UN Environment, Communication Division at the Nairobi duty station and reports to the Deputy Director, the Goodwill Ambassador Coordinator is responsible for the effective and efficient performance of the following duties:

    Responsibilities

  • Implementation of Goodwill Ambassador programme: Lead UN Environment’s Goodwill Ambassador (GWA) programme by developing and implementing a strategy that maximizes the celebrities’ outreach and engagement in support of the organization’s public advocacy campaigns, World Environment Day, the UN Environment Assembly and other initiatives. Foster and maintain positive relationships with GWAs to maximize their outreach and productivity. Plan events for the GWAs in coordination with others from across UN Environment’s Communication Division and elsewhere within the organization. Ensure implementation of all GWA activities adhere to relevant UN policies and practices.

  • Guide and grow UN Environment’s stable of GWAs: Identify and recruit high-profile celebrities to UN Environment’s stable of GWAs. Provide guidance to regional offices and others within UN Environment on the recruitment and management of national and international Goodwill Ambassadors. Monitor all GWA activity and report back to campaign coordinators and others on all activities.

  • Resource mobilization: Identify and coordinate activities in which GWAs support fund raising for UN Environment advocacy campaigns and other initiatives

    Education

  • Advanced University Degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, public information, marketing, public relations or other related field is required.

  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years work experience in public information, communication, programme management or related field is required.

  • Experience in international environment is an advantage.

  • Prior experience in dealing with high-profile stakeholders, Goodwill Ambassadors and /or prominent personalities is desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

  • For this post, fluency in English (both Oral and written) is required.

  • Working knowledge in French Language is an added advantage.
