UNEP Programme Officer Jobs in Kenya; This position is located in the Ozone Secretariat at the Nairobi duty station, under the direct supervision of the Senior Legal Officer.

Responsibilities

Contribute to Secretariat’s Work:

  • Lead technical work on energy efficiency, refrigerant management, disposal of equipment, climate change and cooling (including cold chain)

  • Identify and track emerging technical and policy issues related to Montreal Protocol implementation

  • Advise colleagues, parties, and stakeholders on technical/policy questions

  • Prepare briefing and information materials for parties and stakeholders

    Build Relationships and Partnerships:

  • Identify linkages with other multilateral environmental agreements and international programmes

  • Participate in knowledge-sharing activities relevant to ozone and climate protection

  • Serve on UNEP committees and working groups; represent the Secretariat at expert-level meetings and conferences

    Support Implementation Committee:

  • Prepare documentation for Committee meetings

  • Make presentations and provide advice during meetings

  • Communicate with parties, Multilateral Fund Secretariat, implementing agencies, and bilateral agencies on non-compliance matters

  • Participate in regional network meetings for national ozone officers

    Service Diplomatic Conferences:

  • Draft pre-session, in-session, and post-session documents

  • Review documents prepared by colleagues

  • Support negotiations on assigned agenda items

  • Arrange and service meetings at the request of parties

    Data Analysis:

  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends/patterns

  • Provide insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods

    Competencies

  • Competence in environmental protection issues, especially Montreal Protocol implementation

  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate tasks in energy efficiency, refrigerant management, disposal, climate change, and cooling

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining stakeholder relationships to enable compliance

  • Creativity in finding solutions to compliance problems

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for
    decision-making

    Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environmental sciences, management, economics, law, or related field required

  • First-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted

  • Completion of degree/non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science desirable

    Work Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience in monitoring and evaluation of environmental projects/programmes required

  • At least 4 years of experience with a Government or intergovernmental entity implementing the Montreal Protocol desirable

  • Experience in evaluation, research, project management, and strategic planning within UN or similar organizations desirable

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data analytics desirable

    Languages

  • English required

  • French, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic, or Russian desirable
