The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana works across the 16 regions and focuses its development interventions in three interconnected areas: environment and climate change, inclusive development, and governance and peacebuilding.

The Country Office is seeking to recruit a qualified and reliable driver to support our transportation needs. The driver will provide reliable and safe driving services to UNDP and other ranking UN officials and visitors, ensuring the highest standards of direction, integrity, a sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol, and security issues.

The driver will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.

Upon request of the supervisor, the driver may also be required to provide services to the Operations and Programme Staff in the Country Office, consultants and experts, and UN staff on mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures provision of reliable and safe/secure driving services of authorized passengers while focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Safely drive UNDP vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers whenever required.

  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities and arrangements when required.

  • Local traffic rules and regulations are strictly observed.

  • Ensures instructions and security guidance provided by the
    supervisor and security focal point are strictly followed by the Driver and the passengers during the journey.

  • Ensures cost-saving through the proper use of the vehicle by accurately maintaining daily vehicle logs, providing inputs to the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

  • Ensures proper day-to-day proper maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tyres, brakes, car washing etc.

  • Ensures availability of all the required documents / supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city / country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.

  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

    Required Skills and Experience

    Education:

  • Completion of Secondary School Education

  • Valid Driver's License (B)

    Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience as a driver in an international institution, governmental organization, embassy or UN system.

  • Additional work experience is considered as an asset.

  • Knowledge of Ghana driving rules and regulations.

  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs.

  • Driving experience with the UN system or any international organization will be an advantage.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

  • Safe/Clean driving records with no major traffic violations or accidents.

  • Familiarity with GPS navigation and electronic logging devices.

  • Ability to conduct routine vehicle inspections and perform basic maintenance tasks, such as checking tire pressure and oil levels.
